In 2021, DESCAT-UK initiated their NNF Design competition to inculcate sustainability in budding designers. The international competition was held in Fashion Revolution week , from 19 April- 25 April.
The students were asked to explore their design sense using a newly launched fiber NNF. Students were given an opportunity to choose from an array of categories of products like Mens Wear, Womens Wear, Kids Wear, Unisex Products, Home Décor & Accessories.
Like other categories, Mens Wear category too, had a very tough competition among a few talented young designers.
The participants designed variety of products including ethinc wear like sherwanis, from the new fabric, inspired from Mughal era; Formal wear like suits and blazers inspired by the frosty winters.
The students were encouraged to consider the environmental and social impact of their designs, technical details as well as end of cycle approach of their products. Thus the organizers stirred up the young minds to think about a circular approach while practicing fashion.
Many participants were selected in second and final rounds of the competition and after many appreciated efforts by participants and tough competition a winner was selected.
Sandra Joseph Morris from Nirmala Niketan College of Home Science was selected as the winner in Men's wear category. She had designed a collection inspired from GEN Z trends. With a very modern look and comfortable silhouettes added with catchy colors, she won the hearts of judges with her excellent work.
The winner was awarded with an opportunity of internship and cash prize.
The competition gave a whole new outlook on young minds working on sustainability as well as various uses of NNF textiles!
